Snow Cream…just the thought of this brings special memories from my childhood. We have never had an abundance of snow in the south where I live, but whenever we had a decent snow, we enjoyed snow cream!

This is a rare treat that my boys have enjoyed a few times in their lives. This week was one of them. We received 16 inches {2014}…I don’t remember this much snow at once…quite the treat here in the south. It makes life a little crazy on the farm though, because life goes on.

Snow Cream ~ Making Cherished Memories

Snow Cream…. Have you ever had it? It is quite simple!!

We wait until the 2nd good snow that is soon after the first snow…which explains why we never get this much where we live.

We put a big bowl out on a table or off the ground to gather the fresh snow several hours after it started snowing. It didn’t take long to fill this bowl.

We use a simple recipe:

  • Milk
  • Sugar
  • Vanilla

Most recipes call for Sweetened Condensed Milk…we never have used that before, but I tried a little…I didn’t like it as much as our original recipe.

I don’t measure…we just add a little milk to make it creamy, a little sugar for sweetness and a dash of vanilla. This time we let everybody mix up their own bowl and covered the bowl and put it outside to save until the next day. But for those who like recipes, try this:

6-8 cups fresh snow

1/2 – 3/4 cup milk ~ dairy, coconut or almond

1/4- 1/2 cup sugar

1/2 tsp vanilla

I asked on my facebook page about different recipes and heard some new ones. One I hadn’t thought about was using coconut milk. It seems that sweetened condensed milk is the most popular thing to use.

You can do other things ~ add in sprinkles, chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, maple syrup. Some people add in hot chocolate packets. How about making it a different flavor with essential oils? I am going to try orange, lemon, frankincense {had Frankincense Ice Cream before and it is amazing!!  Or how about Cinnamon or  Peppermint? So many options!!

You can make it healthier with coconut or almond milk and organic sugar, coconut sugar or maybe try stevia. Or use chocolate almond milk.

This is a fun, rare treat that we enjoy!!

Do you make snow cream? What is your favorite recipe?
