We love celebrating at our house!! Life can be hard and we should make every  moment as joyful as we can. Everyone is a little worn out from the busyness of Thanksgiving and Christmas and it seems New Year’s Eve is a time to just relax and celebrate the previous year and look forward to the coming year. New Year’s Celebration for us comes right before a birthday on January 4th so it is a busy time!!

New Years Eve Fun {Free Printables}

A New Year is just around the corner!!

We like to take some time to plan, talk about the past year and make some goals/talk about some dreams for the next. My favorite planner to use is iBloom. It is amazing for home, family and business. It would be great if you didn’t have a business. You can grab it here and use code freeshipping. Check out my review here.  I have a few sheets below for your family and kids to use that are along the same line and make great keepsakes!!

Here are some fun ideas that you can do with your family this year…

Decorating:

We keep our Christmas decorations up until mid-January. During some difficult years, we kept them up much longer. The tree and lights make things brighter and happier!!

So, our house has the decorations of Christmas and this year we are going to add some New Year’s Decorations as well.

The decorations that we are using we found at an after Christmas sale…silver and black ornaments and silver bells. Silver Tinsel. Snowflake Plates and Cups. I love shopping after Christmas and getting great deals for the next year. Hobby Lobby is a great place to find deals to make a things special!

My son made a banner a few years ago that he puts up at Grandma’s house…he spent a lot of time on that! We visit them for a little while and then celebrate more at home.

Chalkboards…I love chalkboards!! Maybe it is the teacher in me?

You can decorate with balloons and clocks.  You probably have a lot of clocks sitting around the house and l have seen clocks at 50% off at several stores. I love clocks too.  Those are always fun!

You can decorate glasses and bottles with these free printables. We like to celebrate with glass bottles of Cheerwine (a locally made soft drink) or root beer.  Holiday Punch is a favorite for holidays as well. They would also make great cupcake toppers…just add them to a toothpick. These can be taped with double sided tape.

I found these cute striped paper straws at Hobby Lobby.

 Countdown Bags:

New Years Eve Fun

These are a fun way to plan the fun! You can do one for each hour for as long as your party will last.

I bought some bags at the after Christmas sale and New Year’s Scrapbooking Stickers on sale.  My boys had fun decorating them for me.

You can do a schedule for the evening and put what you will do in each bag. Here are some ideas:

  • Preparing snacks during day.
  • Prepare your favorite food together …we like pizza and soup or sometimes just snacks. How about you?

  • Take a Family Photo
  • Make a Blessing Jar…write down all the blessings in your life from the past year and use those in 2014 to reflect on God’s goodness.
  • Make a Time Capsule to open next year or several years down the road.
  • Shoot off fireworks/watch firework
  • Listen to music and have fun!
  • Toast in the New Year!
  • We used to watch the ball drop on the internet (we don’t have TV but I really don’t like the music or the entertainment) so we do our own countdown
  • You can do a countdown with younger kids or maybe a Piñata,  get them in bed and then mom and dad can create their own fireworks ringing in the New Year. 😉

Games:

A fun way to celebrate is to play games. We enjoy games like Monopoly, Headbandz, Yhatzee, Checkers, Trouble, Farkle, Charades. We enjoyed Charades on Christmas Eve. We did classic Disney characters and Bible characters…it was fun! Puzzles are always a fun thing to do as a family.

I found the following vintage games at T J Maxx and gave them to the kids for Christmas. Can you tell I like vintage things? Glad that my family does too!

 Snacks:

We try to limit sweets but the holidays we take it a little easier. I find candy after Christmas at a discount and set them around in pretty DaySpring bowls.

We set out things like Chex Mix, Muddy Buddies, Pretzel Windows, Chips and Salsa or Cheese, Sausage Cheese Dip, cheese sticks, potato skins, nuts, vegetables and fruits. We sometimes make cookies that we didn’t get a chance to make during our holiday baking days.

New Year’s Day:

It is fun to start off the morning with pancakes formed in the shape of the year. I usually try to make pancakes in the shape of the holiday we are celebrating. It doesn’t always happen but it is a goal.

It is nice to just sit around and take it easy, play games or finish doing some of the celebrating from the night before.

It is a good day to work on goals and dreams for the New Year. It is a good time to reflect on the previous year…the good, the bad, the blessings. We have so much to be thankful for!

We don’t have a traditional meal on New Year’s Day. Many people eat collard greens and black eyed peas.  Do you have a favorite meal?

I hope you have a wonderful time with your family!!
